How we give back to the community.

Good oral health has defined Delta Dental of Michigan since we were formed in 1957, and it has driven our corporate citizenship and philanthropy initiative for most of the last decade. In fact, we’ve invested almost $27 million since 2012 and have made a difference in the lives of more than 1 million people annually.

But oral health isn’t an isolated issue. It’s connected to public health, education and economic development, and it’s complicated by underlying issues including poverty, unequal access to health care and educational opportunity. That’s why Delta Dental and the Delta Dental Foundation support initiatives that build healthy, smart, vibrant communities for all.

Delta Dental Foundation

The Delta Dental Foundation (DDF) develops and enhances partnerships and programs to improve oral and overall health and health equity.

The DDF was established in 1980 as a nonprofit, charitable organization and serves as the philanthropic arm of Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and North Carolina.

The DDF focuses its support in these categories:

  • Increasing dental access to underserved and high-risk populations
  • Providing educational programming on the importance of oral health and how it relates to overall health
  • Identifying and reducing health disparities related to oral and overall health.
  • Providing scholarships and awards to dental students
  • Continuing education programs for the dental profession

Corporate citizenship efforts

At Delta Dental, our employees are at the heart of our corporate citizenship efforts. Each year, hundreds of employees enthusiastically raise money, read to children, pack backpacks, donate food and school supplies, assist at oral health events, and read grant requests—and that is just the beginning!

Through our corporate citizenship efforts, we support charitable organizations and programs that are working to make a difference in communities throughout Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. We award nearly $300,000 each year to organizations that support the arts, education, and overall health and well-being of children and adults.
