Stepping up to the plate for PAL
Delta Dental employees teamed up to participate in the Detroit Police Athletic League’s fourth annual Corporate Baseball Challenge, raising $30,000 to support the organizations youth sports leagues and programs.
Baseball is America’s favorite pastime.
Impacting local communities is Delta Dental’s passion.
Delta Dental joined EY, Marathon, Bridgewater Interiors, the Detroit Auto Dealers Association and GM Financial for the Detroit Police Athletic League’s (PAL) fourth annual Corporate Baseball Challenge which ultimately led to $30,000 in funding going to PAL.
Founded in 1969, PAL partners with some of the biggest names in Detroit sports to give kids the opportunity to learn through athletics. PAL offers year-round athletic leagues and programs that impact more than 14,000 young athletes and thousands of coaches in the Detroit area.
The Corporate Baseball Challenge featured teams of five employees paired with a member of Detroit’s police department. The teams competed in various skills competitions throughout the day with Team Delta Dental claiming a second-place finish.
“It’s a fun event that helps raise funds for Detroit’s youth and gives baseball fans a chance to play at the old Tiger Stadium,” said Rob Minch, an account manager with Delta Dental of Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
This was Steve and Zach’s first time participating in the baseball challenge. Zach said being from the Lansing area, he enjoyed learning about Detroit PAL and the work they do within the community.
“It was a great opportunity to spend time with co-workers who all share baseball and giving back to the community as common interests,” Zach said. “It also brought back memories of playing baseball as a kid.”
