Local water is a public health intervention

Did you know your tap water protects your teeth? Water fluoridation is the single most effective—and often overlooked—public health measure to prevent tooth decay. That’s why the Lansing Board of Water and Light (BWL) has upgraded their water fluoridation system, thanks in part to an $89,465 grant from the Delta Dental Foundation (DDF).

Fluoride strengthened tooth enamel, which makes cavities less severe, reduces tooth loss, and lessens pain caused by tooth decay. Studies suggest that fluoridation saves about $32.19 per person per year in averted dental treatment — a 20 to 1 return on investment.
